Acting Fundamentals
Acting Explorations I

This course is for those who have had previous acting training. Those who have taken Acting Fundamentals can check in with their instructor to see if Acting Explorations I is recommended or if another Fundamentals would be more helpful. This class is ideal for those with experience and a basic actor vocabulary who are looking to get back into the work after a break. Using scene work and exercises, the focus of this class is strengthening text analysis and following inner impulses to create a powerful need to speak. The work in class will enliven the imagination and increase emotional availability of the actor. This class is designed to be taken more than once, as it is different each time with new students and new scenes to explore. Limited to 10 students.

Acting Explorations II

Led by Rick Roemer, this more advanced course is for students with acting experience and those who have taken previous classes and would like to continue stretching their acting muscles. THOSE WHO HAVE TAKEN EXPLORATIONS I, CAN CHECK WITH THEIR INSTRUCTOR TO SEE IF EXPLORATIONS II IS RECOMMENDED OR IF ANOTHER EXPLORATIONS I CLASS WOULD BE MORE HELPFUL! Think of this class as a creative acting gymnasium where you can come and work out! This “workout” will include scene study and monologue work. We will also explore diving deeper into character through an Auto Drama exercise. Everyone is expected to work in every class. The final class, there will be a performance of scenes and monologues for an invited audience.

Acting on Camera I
Acting on Camera II
Improvisation

Led by Sims Holland or Sarah-Marie Curry! Improv is an indispensable asset for the actor, a great tool for development and self-discovery, and FUN! In this class, we will explore the fundamental improv skills of paying close attention and reacting honestly, the essential ingredients of compelling scene work. It’s not about thinking fast or being funny! This class is open to everyone, from actors who want to upgrade their technical toolkit to people with no performance experience who want to try something a little challenging (but FUN!) in a super-supportive environment.

Audition Monologue Workout

Auditioning is an essential (and occasionally dreaded) skill that each actor must master. In this class, we will find the FUN in entering a casting room, reframing auditioning into an opportunity to do the thing we love. This class will increase confidence and hone dynamic monologue techniques for stage auditions. Skills covered include character study, choosing clear and high-stakes intentions, entrances/exits and how to be fully present in the room. Register early! Students will receive guidance on finding and crafting 2 monologues. Previous acting training/experience is required.

6-week Advanced Self-Taping Workshop with global talent agent Jessica Polsky

Don’t get caught unprepared when the TX film incentives yield more local on-camera auditions!

Tools of the Trade + Self-Taping

Led by Jacqui Calloway, this class is designed for actors with prior training who are beginning their professional acting journeys, revamping their materials, or newly breaking into the Austin market. It covers headshots, resumes, demo reels, casting websites, and social media usage. We’ll discuss industry standards, look at professional examples, and provide feedback on students’ current materials. We will also dive into the technical elements of home set-up, camera technique, and editing self-tapes, as well as addressing the unique acting challenges that self-tapes present. We’ll end by discussing the logistics of getting an agent and sustaining an acting career in Central Texas or beyond. (Class is 18 clock hours, limited to 10 students)

Basics of Musical Theatre Dance

Calling all singing actors who move (but-please-don’t-make-me-do-the-dance-audition)! Led by Toni Bravo, this class will help get both of your left feet moving in the right direction on the foundation of basic steps used frequently in musicals. You will learn to combine the steps into combinations to help you move with fluidity and greater confidence. You’ll be armed with several strategies for memorizing combinations and for coordinating song, character choices, rhythm, and movement. You can do it. Toni can help. Give her six weeks and you’ll feel ready to take those steps you’ve learned and say “heck yes” to that next dance call.

Introduction to Voiceover I

Led by Cliff Miller or Rosanna Pilcher, this course is for actors and curious individuals wanting to learn more about the world of voiceover. We will cover acting for voiceover, home studio setup, mic technique, and recording and editing. We will focus on commercials and narration by analyzing, performing, and critiquing voiceover copy. Limited to 8 students. Materials needed: internet connection & audio/video capability with computer or tablet; updated (free) Zoom account.

Introduction to Voiceover II

Led by Cliff Miller, this class builds on the techniques and industry knowledge established in Intro to Voiceover I, a prerequisite for taking this course. This class is designed for individuals who want to take their interest in VO beyond the classroom and into the industry. We will continue analyzing, performing, and critiquing commercial and audiobook copy. In addition, we will begin working on the growing field of e-learning narration. Limited to 8 students.
